MAIN RESIDENCE-

Travelers Rest, SC

This 8 acre plot of land is along the scenic route Highway 11, at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. With diverse topography and 80ft in elevation change, the site to build was chosen to best capture the views of the pasture and encircling mountains.

Appalachian design was made by master craftsman and early homesteaders who built their homes with local, easily accessible materials and functionality in mind. This humble architecture complements the surrounding landscapes using wood lap siding, steeply pitched tin roofs, and large centralized stone fireplaces. It was important to integrate these attributes into the design while having a contemporary approach. The cedar siding would slowly dim to a gray hue as the home settles into the site and the choice to use concrete masonry units was because real stone for building was difficult to source and out of the budget. But it created an opportunity to showcase a readily available, resource efficient material that gave the home a modern feel.

The program is a single-family dwelling (3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and loft) with attached garage/ workshop and courtyard pool.
